The Right Recipe Soul Food and Grill Reviews
What was not delicious here? I got the ribs plate. Friends got the fried shrimp and another got chicken and everything was delicious. - ribs (how do they get that great flavor?) - collard greens (with Louisiana hot sauce) be still my heart - yams (so delicious... one friend wasn't even hungry and she ordered her own sides of these) - cabbage delicious - ooegy gooey cake (great tasting bad for diet.. will eat the whole thing in one sitting) Peach cobbler was sold out when we came. And the meal smelled so delicious it was devoured quickly so no pictures. Will be back!
Came to update my review on this restaurant. So after my first time going about two weeks ago. I couldn't stop thinking about the oxtails. So I decided to go back on Saturday after my shift because it's also up the street from my job so win win for me. Anyways, when I got there they were closed and so I went home. They were supposed to be open so for some reason I was still thinking like "maybe they'll open late today".. well I called them and the voicemail said they were opening late. I hurried and rushed backed over there. I had literally one hour until my movie started so I was hoping nobody else was there because the line do be long. Well it was packed once I got there but I didn't care. The owners actually said the had been at the ER all night prior with their child. I just want to commend them for their strength to still come and serve the community their amazing food. I really love this place and everybody is so friendly and welcoming. I got me the oxtail plate again and then another person convinced me to get the catfish so I got a catfish plate too since their closed on Sundays and I knew my ass was gone be hungry, lol. The oxtails are amazing always. I love that they are not stingy with the oxtail and try to always give you meaty ones and not just bones like some places in the dfw I won't name.......... This time they were even more tender. I'm libel to buy like 4 oxtail plates on my next visit lol but anyways. The fried fish was delicious too. I liked the batter and it had a nice crisp. I do prefer my fish fried extra hard but wasn't even mad at this one. It was a nice sized catfish fillet as well. Comes with Mac already so I was able to try some other sides. The red beans and rice were delicious. I'll be back next week for my oxtail plate! Shoutout to the owners though for just being amazing ppl with a good food! Got a forever customer in me! Oh I also got the peach cobbler because of the lady in front of me. It was good. More Cakey than I expected but I wasn't mad it. Had a good flavor and plenty peaches i the bottom.
I am SO glad we stopped by here. The food was so phenomenal - it's rare to come across a place that doesn't need extra seasoning or sauce added to it, but this place doesn't! It's PERFECTLY seasoned and is like a home-cooked meal. My kids and I shared an order of greens, oxtail, and ribs. I'm still swooning over the oxtail - the rice in the incredibly seasoned juice...there's no words - it's THAT good! The fried chicken was juicy. Literally everything was to die for. I grew up going to Sweet Georgia Brown, and we've visited south of I-10 Louisiana many a time - this restaurant is the real deal, y'all. Don't pass it up! I can't wait to come back and try some more -especially dessert.
OMG this place is phenomenal!!! Seriously the most authentic cajun/creole food in Dallas. I'm soooo happy this gem opened. Don't let the outside fool you. The ambiance inside is clean with great NOLA flair and the service was so friendly. The gumbo was flavor town and had tons of protein goodies in it. My hubs loved the red beans and rice. I actually enjoyed it too and I'm not even a bean fan. The fried catfish was perfectly fried and flakey inside. Lastly, the oxtail was game changer. It had so much depth and fell off the bone tender. I cannot wait to come back and try more items esp the sausage poboy which was out on my visit. Do yourself a favor and check out this spot, it will not disappoint.
This spot was nearby where I was staying while I was in Dallas for a long weekend. I'm glad this was one of the restaurants that popped up high on the list of recommendations when I Googled it. I ordered a carryout of catfish, cabbage, red beans and rice, and macaroni and cheese. Pa-pow-pow. Everything was worth the gamble. I must admit that I am partial to baked macaroni and cheese more than I am to just creamy macaroni and cheese. However, they didn't disappoint. I will admit that I could have had the catfish and the red beans and rice for the rest of the time I was in Dallas. Big ups to the great service. It may be Southern hospitality or there way of securing you as a regular customer. All I know is I ate well.
